Brief Vitae of the Invited Speaker:

ProfessorA. Ostrogorsky received his Dipl. Ing. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Belgrade (1977), MS in Nuclear Engineering at R.P.I. (1981), and Sc.D. in Mechanical Engineering at MIT (1986). He worked as a post-doctoral associate, in the Material Science and Engineering Dept. at M.I.T. until 1987, when he joined Columbia University as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. In 1991, he was an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the Material Science Department Universität Erlanger-Nürnberg. He joined the Rensselaer faculty in January 1993. He was Director of the Center for Microgravity and Materials Research (CMMR) at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, January 1999- to Sept. 2000. Since 2009, he is Professor at the Mechanical, Materials and Aeronautical Engineering (MMAE) Department at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).

Professor Ostrogorsky was Principal Investigator of the SUBSA microgravity investigation, conducted during the “Expedition 5” or at the International Space Station (1993-2004). He is a Member, Executive Committee, American Association for Crystal Growth (AACG), Fellow, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Associate Fellow, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and Member of the Editorial Board, Journal of Crystal Growth, Elsevier (Associate Editor). Member of the Board of Directors, CRC Crystal research Corp.

He has been with ESTECO since 2007 and is currently working as Manager of Technical Services and team at ESTECO North America. He is primarily responsible for supporting North American and Indian customers of modeFRONTIER with their applications, training, support and projects and managing ESTECO’s technical team in North America and India.

He is also performing research on new applications, algorithms and software features for future product development.

Brief Vitae of the Invited Speaker:

Jovica R Riznic is a Technical Specialist at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), working on regulatory analysis and assessment of technical issues with operating nuclear power plants (NPP). He served CNSC on various position, including nuclear safety analysis and managing the CNSC Research and Support Program. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Waterloo and Mc Master University, and a faculty at Algonquin College in Ottawa in the School of Business and the Centre for Continuing and Online Learning teaching courses within the Project Management Certificate Program. Additionally, he taught courses in thermal and fluid sciences (Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. During his career spanning over thirty years, Dr Riznic besides being a highly respected professional and recognized expert in nuclear regulatory issues, has engaged in solving technically important issues at nuclear power plants. He conducted research at Argonne National Laboratory, Purdue University and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the areas of heat and mass transfer, nuclear reactor thermal hydraulics, multi-phase thermo-fluid systems, nuclear reactor safety and reliability, and engineering management. Dr. Riznic is currently coordinating a team providing Canadian contribution to a number of international research projects with US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD NEA) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to address issues of material degradation and safe operation of piping components and steam generators of CANDU and Light Water Reactors.

Dr. Marcelo Colaco received his Ph.D. from UFRJ in 2001. He then spent 15 months as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Arlington working on optimization algorithms, inverse problems in heat transfer, and electro-magneto-hydrodynamics including solidification. Afterwards, he spent one year performing research at UFRJ/COPPE on a prestigious CNPq grant as an Instructor and a researcher. From there, he joined Brazilian Military Institute of Engineering where he was teaching and performing research for four years in numerical algorithms for analysis of MHD flows, EHD flows, solidification problems, optimization algorithms utilizing response surfaces, and fuel research. For the past four years, he has been teaching and performing research at the best ME department in Brazil and building a large and unique fuels and lubricants research center at the UFRJ.

About the Invited Lecturer:

Brian H. Dennis is currently an Associate Professor in the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Arlington. He obtained BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Aerospace Engineering at Pennsylvania State University. He has over one hundred technical publications in various journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters in the general areas of FEM analysis, inverse problems, and optimization. His current research interests include development of chemical reactors, microfluidics, alternative fuel synthesis, computational mechanics, design optimization, and high performance computing. Dr. Dennis has developed several finite element based computer codes for the simulation of chemically reacting fluid flows, structural dynamics, heat transfer, and electromagnetics. His codes have been used for several engineering applications in the biomedical, aerospace, chemical, and electronic packaging fields. He holds one patent and has three pending patents in the area of fuel synthesis from alternative feedstocks. His research has been funded by US Dept. of Energy, DARPA, Texas Dept. of Agriculture, and several companies.
